Gérald Gaillard, Université des Sciences et des Techniques de Lille 1

Associate Professor at the Université des Sciences et des Techniques de Lille 1, is the author of numerous texts on the history of anthropology. He spent the first eighteen years of his life in Bouaké and Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire). He studied in Paris, among others with Georges Balandier, and conducted long-term fieldwork among the Biafada, living in a remote rural area on the borders of Guinea Conakry and Guinea Bissau. He wrote a habilitation of classical style about them (2004), before turning to more comprehensive analyses of Guinea Bissau. Taking up the subject of globalisation, he expanded his research to the international marriage market notably in Asia. E-mail: Gerald.Gaillard@univ-lille1.fr.
