Stephen Chan, SOAS University of London, The United Kingdom

Stephen Chan was the Foundation Dean of Law & Social Sciences at SOAS University of London, where he retains the Chair in World Politics. In 2010 he was conferred both the OBE and the International Studies Association accolade of Eminent Scholar in Global Development. He has held named chairs and appointments around the world and has been the external juror on several national grants bodies. Formerly an international civil servant with much experience in Africa, he continues to work on China-Africa relations and, increasingly, on Middle Eastern issues. He has been Konrad Adenauer Chair at Bir Zeit University and his next book Spear to the West (March 2019), the latest of 33, deals with online Jihadi recruitment methodology and ideology.
